Outlook Lite for Android: this is Microsoft’s email client for modest mobiles

Despite being a very complete email client and one of the best alternatives to Gmail, the Outlook app for Android is quite heavy. Thus, using this app on a low-end mobile or with few resources can become a real torture.

Microsoft realized this problem and decided to solve it as other companies do: with a second application with limited functionality and lower resource consumption. The result? Outlook Lite: the light version of Microsoft mail for Android.

Outlook Lite is optimized for mobiles with 1 GB of RAM and 2G networks

Without making too much noise, Microsoft released Outlook Lite for Android. This new application is a light version of your email client and is ready to work on low-resource mobiles. On this, Microsoft points out that Outlook Lite is capable of running on mobiles with only 1 GB of RAM and 20 MB of available space. Plus, it only requires 5 MB of data to download, saves a ton of battery power, and is optimized for use over slow network connections.

Unlike other applications of this style (such as Messenger Lite or Instagram Lite), Outlook Lite doesn’t cut too many features compared to the standard app.

  • It is compatible with all Microsoft mail services: Outlook, Hotmail, Live, MSN, Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Exchange.
  • Allows you to configure POP or IMAP emails no problem, like Gmail or Yahoo.
  • Allows access to the calendar and contacts from Microsoft directly from the app.

Then, What changes? First, the code in Outlook Lite is much better optimized to handle fewer resources and still run smoothly. Second, animations are removed and other superfluous design features that are present in the standard application.

With this, Outlook Lite gains in speed. Besides, it is such a well-optimized app that it works correctly even on 2G networks, which are incredibly slow.
