New LPDDR5T Runs 13% Faster Than Predecessor, Available In Second Half Of The Year

Sk Hynix LPDDR5T Memory Introduction

SK Hynix, a South Korean multinational memory semiconductor supplier, has announced the development of the world’s fastest mobile DRAM memory, LPDDR5T (Low Power Double Data Rate 5 Turbo). The company has already provided samples of the product to customers.

LPDDR5T runs 13% faster than its predecessor, LPDDR5X, with a speed of 9.6Gbps, which is where the “Turbo” in its name comes from. The currently available LPDDR5 has a speed of 6.4Gbps, while LPDDR5X is 8.5Gbps. The new LPDDR5T operates at a minimum voltage of 1.01 to 1.12V as specified by JEDEC (Joint Electron Device Engineering Council).

SK Hynix has provided customers with samples of a 16GB multi-chip package, which combines multiple LPDDR5T chips into one package. This packaged product can process 77GB of data per second, which is equivalent to transferring fifteen Full-HD movies in one second.

The company plans to begin mass production of LPDDR5T using 1anm, the fourth generation of the 10nm technology, in the second half of the year. This means that consumers will not have to wait long to experience the outstanding performance of this DRAM.

In addition to its speed, SK Hynix is also using the HKMG (High-K Metal Gate) process in this product to achieve the best performance. HKMG is a next-generation process that uses a material with a high dielectric constant (K) in the insulating film inside DRAM transistors to prevent leakage currents and improve capacitance. It reduces power consumption while increasing speed. SK Hynix was the first company in the industry to integrate the process in mobile DRAM in Nov. 2022.

Overall, SK Hynix’s LPDDR5T is a significant advancement in mobile DRAM technology, offering faster speeds and improved performance while reducing power consumption. Consumers can expect to see this product in action shortly as the company gears up for mass production.
