GSA: Global 2G/3G network closures accelerate, spectrum will shift significantly to 4G/5G in 2025

According to the GSA report, by the end of June 2022,135 operators in 68 countries2G and 3G business services have been completed, planned or are being discontinued, and their spectrum re-farming will be used for 4G/5G.

Among them, 75 operators in 42 countries and regions have completed or plan to shut down 2G networks, including 23 operators in 14 countries and regions have completed the shutdown of 2G; 52 operators in 32 countries and regions have planned to shut down 2G .

In terms of shutting down 3G services, 75 operators from 40 countries and regions have completed, planned or are in the process of shutting down 3G networks, including 26 operators in 15 countries and regions that have completed shutting down 3G networks; 44 in 30 countries 5 operators plan to stop 3G service; 5 operators in 5 countries and regions are shutting down 3G.

Although 2G and 3G networks are closing at an accelerated rate, 3G networks are closing faster than 2G,2025 will be the peak period for operators to switch to 4G/5G.

However, previous reports have pointed out that 2025 will be a watershed in the development of the 4G global market. After 2025, 4G will be completely transferred to the stock market and upgraded to 5G. Prior to the intergenerational development of mobile systems in the global market, the Chinese market has fully entered the 5G era in To B / To C, and has used low-frequency re-cultivation for the development of the 5G market.
