According to news from IT House on May 25, according to the Anqing Public Security Bureau, Mr. He in Anqing, Anhui recently received a video call from an acquaintance, and the other party asked him to help transfer money. After 9 seconds of the video, he hung up on the grounds of a meeting. Since the faces and voices in the video were all acquaintances, Mr. He transferred 1.32 million yuan without thinking too much. But unexpectedly, this is a telecom fraud using AI face-changing technology. Fortunately, Mr. He called the police in time. After receiving the report, the ad hoc police rushed to Beijing overnight to arrest three suspects involved in fraud. On May 22, the police returned the defrauded money of 1.32 million yuan recovered to Mr. He in time, and the case is currently under further investigation.

This is not the first fraud case using AI face-changing technology. Previously, IT House reported the incident of “being defrauded of 4.3 million yuan by AI face-changing in 10 minutes”. Fraudsters have used AI face-changing and onomatopoeia technology to imitate the victim’s friends or relatives and ask the victim to transfer money for various reasons.

At present, AI face-changing technology is not only used in telecom fraud, but also appears in star live broadcasts. Some anchors use the faces of celebrities to carry goods commercially, misleading consumers. According to The Paper, there are also a variety of AI face-changing software on the app store, which can almost be faked. A short video platform also launched an “AI instant shooting” gameplay, where users can put their faces on celebrities and post videos.

In the face of these unpredictable fraudulent techniques, is there any way to identify them? Experts suggest that there are flaws in the texture features of the “AI fake face”. For example, eye or tooth outline details are inconsistent; pupil color or reflection details are not the same; teeth edges are too neat, etc. In addition, the “AI fake face” may not conform to the physiological characteristics of normal people, such as blinking frequency, and mouth movements may not be true and accurate. Also, falsifying video can cause the video to shake, resulting in inconsistencies between frames. In addition, some netizens said that they can let the other party shake their fingers in front of the face. If the face is deformed, it is an “AI fake face”.
